Tegan & Sara

Crybaby Album Artwork

Photography | Design

In 2022 Emy Storey, longtime Art Director for Tegan and Sara, invited me to come do some weird stuff to some ice cream cones. Along the way, we developed the visual world for the band’s forcoming album Crybaby

After years of portrait-led covers, Emy wanted to step away from portraiture and built a visual metaphor instead. After a lot of experimentation we landed on an ice cream cone pierced with a razor blade, a bit of sweetness edged with risk.

The record explored new love, loss of innocence, and the vulnerability that comes with starting over. The artwork mirrored that tension: glossy and nostalgic at first glance, unsettling on closer inspection.

Across the album cycle, we expanded the language into packaging and campaign visuals that balanced candy colours with grit delight and discomfort in equal measure.

In 2023, the project was nominated for a Juno Award for Album Artwork of the Year
